Working a tiny estate of 3.5ha suits Olek Bondonio, as it allows him to do all the vineyard and cellar work himself.
His holdings include part of the Roncagliette vineyard, a steep, south-western amphitheatre of vines that is also home to Gaja’s Sorì Tildin and Costa Russi plots.
Fruit for the Langhe nebbiolo comes from his younger vines, making it in essence a declassified Barbaresco.
Fermentations are spontaneous and carried out in concrete, with ageing for his top wines in Slavonian oak botti.
His meticulous attention to detail is clear vintage after vintage in these generous, traditionally framed, highly sought-after wines.
