Éric Texier is now the leading light of Brézème, a small enclave of the northern Rhône. While reading a book on the Grands Terroirs de France (published in 1880) during his former life as a nuclear engineer, Éric discovered that Syrah grown in Brézème used to be some of the best in the world.
By 1961, however, just one hectare remained. Éric decided to try and revive the
region and acquired a vineyard, experimenting with organic and biodynamic methods. His Syrah is characteristically warm and spicy but whole bunch pressing gives the wine crunchy plum skin tannins. Although known for his reds, his whites are similarly compelling.
